Earth Hour 2009

Today from 8:30-9:30 was earth hour; "Vote for the earth, switch off your lights" said a banner from earthhour.org.

Montreal participated in this, accordingly most of the cities big corporations including Hydro Quebec, my bank Desjardins, CBC radio/tv and even corporate beer giant Molson, switched off their lights. The two pictures here are during earth hour and after earth hour. In trying to spot the differences, I noted that Montreal downtown is not a very lit place. Good for us!

Sisters of Mercy

Brings back memories of my grade school, even though the habits were a little different... Well, I wouldn't call the nuns in my school sisters of mercy, though...

Radio Canada

We visited Radio Canada today... sort of for breakfast and I immediately fell in love with this campus. I could see myself working here as a science journalist... We'll see... Wouldn't it be nice to brush shoulders with all these liberal thinkers?

Kanuk

When I first heard this term, back in the US, I thought it was a derogatory term; I now see they have a whole winter clothing line named after this term. In winter, armies of Canadians flock the metro in Kanuk jackets... They can go from anywhere in the vicinity of a modest $200/- to I-can't-believe-somebody-will-pay-that-much-for-a-winter-coat!

Yes, Winter is almost over

This is where I had my season pass for ice skating - Bonsecours in the old port; skating to a cover of Ave Maria, albeit a cheesy cover with beautiful views of Marche Bonsecours and Downtown... I have very fond memories of this place and I met some super nice people here every time I went... And every time it was someone trying to help me skate. And every time I thought, only in Montreal I can go skating alone and never skate alone... The city that hosted the expo in that dreamy Summer of Love.

Ah, but the ice is receding and I am ready for the end of l'hiver and am ready for a love or no love Summer!

Printemps

Parc LaFointaine on the first day of Spring... Spring equinox was at 7:44am - the snow is all gone, it was only a bit chilly, my winter coat is ready to be retired...

A Canadian Protest

Lonely man protesting in front of the Palais de Justice in my neighborhood in Old Montreal.

Cool Montreal Restaurant...

Apparently in its hey day it was quite the experience eating here... Close to Quartier Chinois in Montreal...
